Use SEO to Get More Customers — Fast
By: Harry Brooks - Director of Search Marketing
"Search engine optimization, or SEO, should be part of every well developed marketing plan. Most business professionals have heard of SEO, at least in passing, but few really grasp the importance of this powerful marketing vehicle. Simply put, SEO can drive targeted visitors to your website. Why does this matter? Because website have become the first and foremost method to engage prospective clients and if used properly, can also be the most effective way to convert those prospects into paying customers.
SEO works like this...
First, a search marketing professional re-engineers the website so that it is search engine friendly. This entails making changes to several important elements on each page of the website including the title tag, meta description tag, page headers, body copy, and alternate text associated with images. The search marketer inserts carefully selected key phrases into each of these elements to ensure that search engines understand the relevancy of each web page. This process is not disruptive to the site; typically this can be done with little fan fare and without changing the overall site look and feel.
Second, the site must be popularized across the Internet. Google and other search engines use the "link popularity" of a website to determine how high to rank the site in the search engine results. Links are the clickable text that lead a user from one website to another. Link popularity is determined by the number of other websites that link to target website. For example, a site about an accounting firm is thought to have more link popularity if many other sites link to it. The more sites that have links to the target website, the higher up the target website will be listed in Google. The process of SEO creates these links to a target website thus increasing its search engine rankings. Of course, the higher a website ranks in the search engines the more visitors the site will tend to get.
Lastly, a well developed SEO plan will include analytics that are used to provide insight into every website visitor. Analytics provides a wealth of information: which search engine the visitor came from, which keyword the visitor used, which pages on the site were visited and even whether or not the visitor completed a contact form.
Stage2 has developed a comprehensive approach to SEO. Through careful implementation and ongoing analysis, we can increase your search engine visibility and drive targeted traffic to your website. The result? "More new customers and a growing business."
